Her First Gobbler, His Perfect Timing
Share
Some hunts are measured by inches. Others are measured by memories.
This one will be remembered forever.
Savannah had found the perfect cover and settled into position, tucked into the pines with a view of the field ahead. Everything felt right, but there was no detailed plan, no whispered strategy, and no prearranged formation.
There didn't need to be.
Adam slipped into the field off her right side, crawling low through the grass at her three o'clock. In his hands were a gobbler decoy and a hungry hen. Without a word, both hunters knew exactly what needed to happen.
The setup was perfect.
As the decoys were placed, Savannah remained still. The field was deceptive, making distances seem closer than they really were. Adam knew a bird could appear at any moment, and with it came the nerves. Sweat formed as he watched and waited, wondering if the excitement of a first turkey would get the best of her.
But Savannah wasn't in a hurry.
She waited.
Then she waited some more.
Patient. Calm. Focused.
The pine branches concealed her every movement as she watched the woods come alive. Then, like a dream stepping into reality, a gobbler appeared.
His feathers shimmered in the morning light as he strutted toward the decoys with confidence. Every step seemed to slow time itself. Twenty yards away, he puffed up, preparing to put on a show and attack the intruding gobbler standing in his field.
That attack never happened.
No, Savannah didn't let it get that far.
The moment had arrived.
And somehow, she knew.
Hunters understand that feeling. The woods grow quiet. Your heart pounds. Everything around you seems to stop for just a second.
You feel the energy.
You feel the blessing.
You feel God's presence.
With steady hands and a calm breath, Savannah made the shot.
Her first turkey.
A moment years in the making.
As excitement and gratitude washed over her, she couldn't help but reflect on what had brought her to that exact place at that exact time. The decoys, the setup, the patience, and the preparation all mattered.
But she believes something greater guided the hunt.
Through prayer, faith, and trust in Jesus, she found herself standing over her very first gobbler. Not by luck. Not by chance.
By grace.
The turkey was the reward, but the memory of that morning—the patience, the teamwork, the faith, and the overwhelming feeling of gratitude—will last far longer than any set of feathers ever could.
Some firsts are unforgettable.
This was one of them.
